Match Report

Newspaper extract from Aberdeen Press and Journal.

Dundee won well in the Inter-Cities Fairs tie at Dens Park without ever being brilliant. A quick goal four minutes after the start set them on the winning trail and they never looked like losing. The Dutch team played fine open football up to the 18 yard line, but they lacked a striker to capitalise on their leading-up work.

Dundee drew first blood in four minutes when Jim McLeab mesmerised two Dutch defenders with a neat body swerve before passing to WILSON.

Sammy took two steps then crashed a great shot past Schrijeers.

A few minutes later the visitors got another fright. Sammy Wilson beat his man beautifully and sent Jim McLean away.

Although through on his own the inside forward squared the ball to his namesake on the left who promptly netted, but the referee adjudged him to be offside.

The Dutchman replied with vigour and when Vonhoss squared low and hard across the goal Pillman, rushing in, somehow contrived to shoot over the bar from two yards.

Struggling after a bright opening Dundee were beginning to be penned back into their own half, and the visitors took over the initiative. generalled by Kruiver, the man who made them tick.

The Dens Parkers still looked dangerous in break ways and after Sammy Wilson had crossed dangerously is front of goal, the keeper was thankful to smother the ball as Jim McLean rushed in for the kill!.

Dundee resumed in much the same way as they had started the first half. First, George McLean almost shattered the crossbar from 12 yards, and from the rebound the keeper brilliantly tipped over from Bryce.

Still the pressure continued and George McLean should have done better than shoot over when in good position.

But in the 59th minute Dundee consolidated their position via the penalty spot, JIM MCLEAN on the point of shooting, was tripped from behind and he made no mistake from the spot.

The visitors didn't give up easily and the Dundee defence had to be on their toes to contain the never-say-die Dutch attack.

In the 69th minute Selway let the field with an injury. to be replaced by Kinninmonth.

Once again it was that man Kruiver with a flashing shot, which just flashed past the post after a neat move by Rensenbrink.

With only two minutes to go, Dundee broke out of defence down the middle. Sammy Wilson veered to the left before crossing precisely to JIM MCLEAN, whose header entered the net via the underside of the crossbar for goal No. 3.
