Describing the manner of this Dundee victory is rather like doing an advert for a new upmarket kind of petrol.
Keener, stronger, faster and sharper are the words which best describe Jocky Scott's team's performance.
In contrast, 'Bankies had little to offer other than good old- fashioned endeavour, and on the day that was not nearly enough.
Yet, strange to say, the first (and certainly one of the best) chances of the first half went Clydebank's way.
After only five minutes a long ball from Conroy escaped the Dundee defence, leaving Jim Sinnett with the goal in his sights. Alas, he rushed the shot, sending it high over.
That was the signal for Dundee to assume command. After intense pressure, Brown and Angus both shot over when well- placed and then a Harvey knockdown gave Jack a clear chance, which he sent weakly wide.
But all this pressure looked in vain until a simple, yet decisive, goal turned the tide. A Tosh McKinlay free-kick from the left was driven across the goal with Graham Harvey rising magnificently to direct his header behind Gallacher.
The veteran 'Bankies keeper did well to prevent an almost immediate increase in the score line when he dived in splendid style to clutch a fierce Stephen 20-yarder.
However, the inevitable had to happen and powerful work from Rafferty set up number two.
His driving run released Shannon whose 15 yarder went "through" Gallacher leaving Ray Stephen to touch home from a couple of yards.
Midway through the second- half Dundee appeared to ease off a little.
In the end the Bankies slumped to their fifth home defeat in the Premier League. However, Gallacher, Maher and Shanks scarcely deserved to be in the losing side.
Dundee, who never looked like dropping a point, had excellent performers in Duffy, Rafferty, Brown and McKinlay.
