Match Report

Fan Zhiyi scored with a brilliant strike for his first goal for the club, to give Dundee a half time lead at Celtic Park, but dreams of a repeat win at the Champions' home were dashed by a Celtic fight-back which saw Sutton, Larsson and Hartson strike to earn the home side a 3-1 win.

The Dark Blue's goal came at the end of a two minute spell, which showed exactly what this Dundee side are capable of, even against the best of opponents. First Ketsbaia hit a wonderful forty five yard pass that looped over Thomson and found Artero racing down the right resulting in a corner for Dundee. From Ketsbaia's corner the ball was cleared to Caballero 20 yards from goal and the striker hit a vicious volley towards the corner of the goal only to see Rab' Douglas make a brilliant save, turning the ball around the post.

The next corner appeared to have been cleared by the Celtic defence but Kiko picked it up in midfield and advanced before hitting an inswinging cross to pick out Fan racing in on the target. The Chinese international did the unthinkable by missing so badly that it almost appeared he had deliberately passed to Caballero but he repositioned himself brilliantly to receive the Argentinian's return pass and spun to fire an unstoppable shot high into the net-It was an unbelievable finish and caused wild celebrations amongst the travelling support as well as amongst the many watching live on TV in Shanghai.

Celtic turned the screw to try to drag themselves back level but despite a series of superbly delivered corners from Petrov Dundee held firm and could have extended their lead before the interval. Rae fired a 25 yarder inches over and Douglas again did well to beat down a fierce Caballero effort from the edge of the box.

Experience of previous visits told us that we were going to get a battering in the opening minutes of the second period.

To win at Celtic you need to avoid losing goals during the regular storms of pressure which Martin O'Neill's men are certain to apply. Of particular importance is to avoid conceding in the ten minutes after half time, when buoyed by a half time pep talk and with the crowd giving them renewed backing Celtic come out with all guns blazing. Unfortunately Dundee didn't get past this period, losing a goal in 50 minutes, and when an injury to Zura in 56 minutes allowed Larsson a clear run on goal Dundee were behind.

Just after the hour many of the floodlights failed and the players left the field for twenty minutes - The danger on their return was that Celtic would score straight away and that's pretty much what happened with less than two minutes played after the interruption before Hartson rose in acres of space to head past Langfield, who'll be very disappointed that he didn't stop the Welshman's effort.

Those of a Dundee persuasion were now beginning to hope that the floodlights really would fail - it didn't look as if there was any way back and despite a Rae effort which Douglas saved low at the post Dundee rarely looked like getting another goal to add to Fan's brilliant first goal for Dundee

Dundee had great first half performances throughout the team but got blown away for small periods of the second half and lost goals in those spells.
