Match Report

Dens Park defender Lee Wilkie last night inched closer to a move from Dundee to the Nationwide Division One. Nottingham Forest's chief scout lan Storey-Moore ran yet another check on the towering Dundee stopper in the 2-2 draw at Easter Road.

A commanding performance in the heart of defence will enhance the already-glowing report Forest have received.

Not that he had an easy ride against Hibs. Craig Brewster and young Garry O'Connor made sure that Wilkie had a busy afternoon.

There was certainly no blame attached to the 22-year- old at both Hibs goals scored by Derek Townsley and O'Connor.

Indeed, it could be argued that Wilkie did most to keep Hibs at bay to allow Fabian Caballero and Steven Milne to rescue a point for Dundee.

For this was a game that Hibs should have won comfortably, simply because they carved out many more chances than a cautiously set-up Dundee side.

The visitors tried to contain the Edinburgh side in midfield and had Caballero working the Hibs defence on his own.

Hibs almost took the lead in 45 seconds, when Alen Orman worked his way up the left and, from his driven cross, Brewster scraped the bar with a six-yard header.

Then O'Connor drifted in dangerously from the right and tested Julian Speroni with his crisp, low, left-foot shot from 16 yards.

But Hibs' opener was only delayed for 14 minutes when Brewster was forced wide to the byline, but managed to turn his cross back to Townsley, who squeezed his shot in at the far post.

Three minutes later, Tony Caig sprinted from his goal to save at Caballero's feet after Massimo Beghetto had dispossessed Freddy Arpinon to send the striker in.

But Caballero got it right after 32 minutes, when his touch and guile took him past Gary Smith and Orman, and he finished with a blistering shot across Caig into the far corner from 14 yards.

With 16 minutes left, Jarko Wiss bulleted in a header from John O'Neil's corner, which had Hibs celebrating a goal, until Speroni sprang back to make a marvellous save.

Hibs broke through again when Brewster pulled Dundee's defenders one way and allowed a corner to drift in from the left and O'Connor cracked a superb left-foot drive in at the far post.

But the celebrations were silenced two minutes from time when Wilkie's run forced Dundee up the pitch and, from his pass, Caballero crossed from the right for substitute Milne to knock the ball into the net from close in.

Two players wee booked Paul Fenwick of Hibs and Dundee's Beghetto.
