Match Report

Dundee won a hard earned point from a game that was low on quality, but big on effort. Thistle's solid start to the league season has been founded on hard work. demonstrating again that they are a hard team to play against as they dominated the first period.

The Jags led 1-0 at half time thanks to a Mitchell goal which showed what Thistle are good at, getting the ball into the box early and challenging for it, but also highlighted some awful defending from Dundee who made at least three defensive mistakes in the build up to the goal.

During that opening period, Dundee had only a couple of real efforts, a Caballero shot, easily held by Arthur after a fine run from Rae, and a low drive just past the post from Novo after a delightful flick from Caballero.

Thistle on the other hand had made several chances with Burns the guilty party on most occasions, spurning a couple of gilt edged chances, as well as bringing out the best from Speroni with a rasping free kick. From that you can rightly conclude that The Dee were fortunate to be only a goal down come the interval, but they came out with more purpose afterwards.

Their more concentrated approach soon brought its reward when Thistle's outstanding performer, Scott Paterson, made his only mistake of the afternoon, gifting possession to Lovell who raced forward and then fed Brady. The newcomer's cross was headed down by Rae to Caballero, and Gavin pounced for the equaliser after Fabian cushioned the ball back into his path.

Thereafter, chances cropped up at both ends with substitute Sara being denied by a great block from Arthur, whilst at the other end, efforts from Mitchell and Buchan came cannoning off the Dundee woodwork.

A cameo 45 second appearance from Chic Charnley had Jim Duffy praying that nobody committed a foul anywhere near the box - Chic said to his former boss as he entered the field "This is just made for me" - Thankfully it wasn't and Dundee left Firhill with a point which bordered on theft.
