Match Report

Goals from Kevin McDonald, Paul Dixon and Simon Lynch (penalty) gave Dundee an emphatic win at Glebe Park, while at the other end young Scott Murray became only the fifth keeper in Dundee's history to keep five clean sheets in a row. The club record is held by Bob Crumley who kept seven in a row in 1908, Also ahead of Murray in the historical clean sheet stakes is Bobby Geddes who kept the opposition out for six games on the bounce in 1980- 81, while only Billy Muir on two separate occasions in the early part of the 20th Century and Tom Carson in 1991 have previously had five shut-outs on the trot.

Dundee started the match with three seventeen year olds, Bryan Deasley making his first start joining Murray and midfielder Kevin McDonald in the starting eleven.

It was one of those kids, Kevin McDonald, who opened the scoring for the Dark Blues in the 19th minute driving the ball home from just inside the box after Garry Brady's shot had been blocked.

Brechin hit back and came close within three minutes of that opener, Steven Hampshire breaking into the box and attempting to clip the ball over the fast advancing Murray, the young keeper stretched out an arm and tipped the effort over the bar, it was a fine save at an important point of the match in a first half where chances were pretty evenly spread between the teams. After the interval it was a different story as Dundee went up a gear to ease to an emphatic win.

They doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half, left back Paul Dixon going on a surging run and lashing in a 25 yarder which crashed down off the crossbar and into the net via the back of home keeper Craig Nelson.

In sixty two minutes the Dee were on easy street via a penalty, striker Simon Lynch being brought down by Craig Nelson as he attempted to round the goalie and picking himself up to net from the spot.

Brechin tried to push forward to grab a consolation, but rarely troubled a back four who look more and more solid as the weeks go on.

Young Deasley went off with ten minutes to go, gaining warm applause from the thousand or so travelling support as Steven Craig replaced him.

Eight minutes earlier they had seen a welcome return to action for Stuart McCluskey, who had been out for three months with an Achilles tendon problem, his 18 minutes on the park maintained his record of having never been on a losing Dundee side.
