Match Report

Dundee made three changes from the side that drew away to Partick Thistle the previous Sunday with Colin Cameron returning to the starting line up after missing out in recent weeks through injury.

David Cowan joined internationals Giorgos Efrem and Andrew Shinnie missing out with David O'Brien and Mark Gilhaney coming in to play on the wings.

The match was stopped only a couple of minutes in when County keeper Joe Malin went down to to receive treatment and when the match restarted the home side had the ball in the net right away. Mark McCulloch crossed from the right and ex Dee Steven Craig knocked the ball into the net but the linesman's flag was up.

Dundee had their first effort moments later when Gilhaney hit a shot just wide of Malin's goal. County should have taken the lead with their next attack. McCulloch again crossed from the right and Dyron Daal saw his header come back off the bar and when Craig looked to have a great chance to score he headed over from inside the six yard box.

Dundee then got in behind when Paton picked out Curier who went passed his man and cut it back but the County defence cleared behind with McMenamin waiting. From the corner and low ball across was side footed towards goal by Paton and looked to be heading for the corner before Paul Lawson hacked it off the line. Paton then had an effort of his own when he went past two into the box but when he shot was blocked McMenamin couldn't make proper contact to turn the ball goalwards.

The high pace game continued and McHale picked up a booking for a late challenge on Daal in the midfield.

Rab Douglas was then called into action for the first time when Michael Gardyne saw his effort from distance pushed away by the Dundee keeper. It was the turn of defender Gary Mackenzie to be the hero on County's next surge forward. Richard Brittain's ball over the top found Craig on the run and his cut back was beautifully cut out by the big center back.

After 25 minutes, Colin Cameron almost saw his return to the side rewarded with his first goal for the club. The ball dropped to him outside the box and with nothing on infront of him the midfielder drove a low shot inches wide of the post.

The fast pace of the match died out and neither side looked like taking the lead over the next period but when the next chance did come around it was a huge one for Steven Craig again.

Douglas could only parry Lawson shot from outside the box and Craig was first to the ball but he turned it over the goal.

That was to be the last chance of the half and although the half was pretty even the best chances both fell to Steven Craig and he was involved in a late exchange which saw both himself and Gary Mackenzie pick up bookings.

The second half started at much the same slow pace the end of the first period was played out in, the first incident coming when McMenamin was booked for a trip.

Dundee had the first big chance of the half when David O'Brien was play in on the left and his low shot was saved by Malin before McMenamin, Cameron then Curier were all denied with blocks from the County defence infront of goal. A minute later and County should have taken the lead again through Steven Craig.

Poor defending saw the ball fall to the ex Dee with only Douglas to beat and the keeper pulled off a great save to turn the ball away, The next chance came for Dundee when the ball fell to McHale outside the areanand his shot went just wide.

Moments later Dundee took the lead. Gilhaney played it to McMenamin wide on the right and he found his strike partner Curier with a great cross and the man who turned down the chance of an international meet up to be with the team today slotted the ball past Malin and put Dundee ahead.

Dundee kept up the pressure and O'Brien saw a shot saved well by the County keeper. Then it was the turn of McMenamin to have an effort on goal. A Cameron free kick forward found it's way to McMenamin and he chested down before volleying over the bar.

The striker also had the next chance to double the lead, County center back Steven Watt was caught out by him on the half way line but as he closed in on goal Malin raced from goal to clear off McMenamin.

Richard Hart almost leveled for the home side when his shot from 30 yards beat Douglas but came back off the bar.

Brittain was next to come close for County when his shot flashed across goal but wide. Moments later and Dundee had the ball in the net but it was ruled out. Gilhaney crossed from the right and McMenamin's flick found Curier who put the ball away for the second time but this time the linesman's flag was up.

Dundee then were down to 10 men when McHale dragged back Sean Higgins and picked up his second booking.

Curier then found himself in on goal and could have finished the match but his shot came off the legs of Malin and feel to McMenamin who was fouled on the edge of the box.

Eric Paton curled the free kick and Malin did well to push it away. Gilhaney made a great run soon after and was brought down again on the edge but before the free kick could be taken Chris Pozniak and Darren Williams came on to replace O'Brien and Gilhaney.

The free kick was touched short to Malone and blocked. County moved up the park looking for one last chance and Higgins over head effort went wide of Douglas' goal.

There was time for one other and Dundee sat back back and County launched the ball forward, a ball over the top found Craig in space and he ran through before MacKenzie chopped him down outside the area and Dundee were down to nine men.

Dundee hearts were braken from the free kick as Sean Higgins drove the ball into the net.
